Helion Fusion Startup Achieves Milestone with 150 Million Degrees Celsius
Originally: Fusion startup Helion hits blistering temps as it races toward 2028 deadline
Helion, a fusion energy startup based in Everett, Washington, has reached a significant milestone by achieving plasma temperatures of 150 million degrees Celsius in its Polaris prototype reactor. This achievement is three-quarters of the way toward the temperatures needed for a commercial fusion power plant. The company is also the first to use deuterium-tritium fuel, and it has plans to sell electricity to Microsoft starting in 2028 from a larger reactor called Orion. Helion aims to produce plasmas reaching 200 million degrees Celsius, which it believes is optimal for power generation.
